Inspiration

Young students nowadays are forced to balance their educational pressure along with their social life, extracurriculars and future education planning. These kids have too much on their plates and take on unnecessary stress. As high school students ourselves we face these challenges daily and planning for post secondary adds to our stress. The worst part is that it is difficult to know where to start when researching for post-secondary. So, to make the lives of other students easier, we have come up with a website that allows students to find out all they need to know about post-secondary in just one website. We call this Envision!

What it does

Envision is a website for students of any age range overwhelmed with where to start their post-secondary research. In Envision, students are given the opportunity to contact past and current students with questions about their post-secondary experience. Younger students, especially first-generation low income students who may not be able to receive sufficient guidance from their families, can learn from the tips provided on this website and contact them for further information. At the end of each study term, colleges and universities have the opportunity to allow their students and alumni to share their post-secondary experiences along with helpful tips to benefit younger students. The students sharing their experience can choose to share their contact information as well. When the students sharing their experience feel that they are too busy to respond to students, they can indicate that they are no longer accepting responses. This allows people to not feel overwhelmed with having to help younger students. Unlike other social media platforms, this platform is dedicated to younger students of any age range seeking guidance and insights.

How we built it

To build our website we used JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we faced was that we didn’t know how to code websites with features such as clicking buttons, having a filter system and being able to search for specific information. So, we had to do a lot of research and trouble shooting to be able to code our idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our challenge led to our accomplishments as we were able to code buttons, a search system and a filter system despite our lack of knowledge on how to code websites. We had to do a lot of research to figure out how to code these features into our website and it was worth it because it made our website more user friendly.

What we learned

Overall, we really enjoyed making this website as it allowed us to learn so much and grow a lot as future coders. By coding our website, we learned how to make a filter, search system and buttons. We also gained experience coding as a team which will benefit us in the future when we have to work with a team on projects.

What's next for Envision

In the future, we plan on adding more features to our website including a section where users can provide feedback and a section where users can get information from past and current students about house rentals and where to buy food during their post secondary life. We will also make the website more scalable in order to handle more users.
