What is your chosen theme and problem statement?

Environment - Problem Statement 2

What does your hack do?

As a one-stop platform operating based on the SaaS (software-as-a-service) B2B (business-to-business) business model, Sustcycle contains useful features including announcements focused on recycling-related activities and events organised by our team, and RecycleBites, which comprises a wide variety of resources ranging from news articles to videos about materials and recycling. RecycleBites is complemented by an INTELLLEX-styled search engine with filters that enable access to resources that the user intends to view with great convenience. Other notable features of Sustcycle include a user profile, which includes the user's business name, associated job role and description of his or her recycling journey history, alongside the total mass of waste recycled (calculated using artificial intelligence and deep learning features) by the user, and his or her personalisable profile picture. Moreover, our app features a task manager, which asks the user to complete recycling-related tasks, ranging from home recycling to the organisation of large-scale recycling events, to earn points (in this case, EnvCredits) which can be converted to money in credit cards to facilitate the purchase of goods and services. Together, these easily accessible and easy-to-use features assist businesses in performing and promoting recycling in Singapore, whilst ensuring minimal time and resource wastage at the same time.

How does your hack answer the problem statement?

Equipped with easily accessible and easy-to-use features, coupled with the implementation of artificial intelligence and deep learning features within the app, Sustcycle facilitates the abilities of, and encourages, business owners and staff in Singapore to develop and enhance recycling efforts. This makes recycling more convenient and accessible to businesses in Singapore, and in turn encourage more people in Singapore to recycle with a similar level of ease.

How did you build your hack?

We designed features of our app via FlutterFlow and created the associated Telegram-styled chatbot using Python with the help of Visual Studio Code.

What are some difficulties you overcame?

We found it difficult to successfully implement APIs dedicated to global search with filters, information about accounts, including email addresses and associated passwords, that can be used in our app, as well as the Telegram bot conversation feature in our chatbot page. Moreover, we found it difficult to successfully implement artificial intelligence and deep learning features in our app using source codes in sophisticated programming platforms such as React, Intellij, JavaScript, Flask, MongoDB and so forth. We plan to include such features in our app in the future.

What was your biggest learning point from LifeHack 2022?

Understanding how to write codes in new and various platforms such as React, Intellij and JavaScript during the special terms, as well as how to integrate simple APIs such as the Telegram API via Python in Visual Studio Code
