Inspiration

Gender-based violence and systemic inequality are urgent global challenges. We were inspired to build EmpowerFix to address these issues by leveraging AI for real-time safety, community support, and advocacy. The idea was born from the need to create a world where everyone feels protected, especially marginalized communities who often go unheard. EmpowerFix is not just an app — it’s a movement for change.

What it does

EmpowerFix is an AI-powered mobile application that focuses on personal safety and empowerment. It includes features such as:

AI Safety Predictor for real-time risk alerts

Panic Button with live location and audio transmission

Community Mode to crowdsource help from nearby users

Multilingual AI Chatbot for legal/safety advice

Advocacy Heatmap for visualizing unsafe areas

Emergency Reporting and direct escalation to authorities

Event-based alerts to adjust risk levels dynamically

EmpowerFix brings protection, awareness, and action into the palm of your hand.

How we built it

We used Flutter for a smooth, cross-platform mobile experience. Our backend stack included:

FastAPI for high-performance API routing

PostgreSQL as the database

Python (scikit-learn, Hugging Face) for AI/ML models

Google Maps API for geolocation services

Twilio for real-time alerts via SMS/email

Chart.js to visualize incident reports as a heatmap

Heroku for deployment and hosting

We combined multiple technologies to deliver speed, security, and reliability.

Challenges we ran into
