What inspired us

We were inspired by one of the GM mottos: "General Motors is committed to our vision of a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion" We decided to create a product that will help achieve the Zero Emission goal.

What we learned

We created a website that takes the user's daily commute schedule and returns the total carbon emissions of their commute in a year and how to reduce them.

How we built our project

We used python and flask to create a website and deployed it onto a server. Using javascript, we send the user input to the ChatGPT API to parse through it and send it to CarbonAPI, which gives us their total carbon emission.

Problems we faced

Problems with deploying flask onto the server and having issues with modules in a virtual environment. We also faced issues with getting different languages to talk to each other, HTML to javascript to python, etc.

Accomplishments we are proud of

A good website with proper HTML and CSS, Semi-functioning code to talk to API and retrieve data.

What we learned

We learned a lot different APIs, languages, and different frameworks.

What's next Emission Evaluator

With a bit of editing, we can optimize for better output. We could increase the data sets so that we could calculate carbon emissions more accurately on a wider range of activities.
