Inspiration

The catalyst for Ember was deeply personal - my own transformative journey of losing 10kg and embracing a healthier lifestyle. We experienced firsthand the hurdles and complexities of maintaining health, and now our mission is to simplify this journey for everyone striving for better health.

What it does

Ember is your intelligent health companion, powered by AI, with a solid foundation in personal health data analysis. Its strength lies in its ability to provide bespoke health advice and emotional support. Ember harnesses the power of vector storage to maintain and process health data in real-time, enabling it to perform regular check-ins and provide proactive feedback based on the user's health status. It's built to identify deviations in health data, and will promptly alert the user while offering necessary support.

How we built it

Ember is the product of a fusion of state-of-the-art technologies. It leverages the Apple Health API to gather health data and GPT-4 for Natural Language Processing. It further utilizes LangChain for AI applications and Firebase for NoSQL database. The front-end interface is designed using Swift. The core innovation, our vector storage system, was developed using Pinecone. This enables Ember's long-term memory and trend tracking capabilities.

Challenges we ran into

Converting the voluminous health data into a format compatible with our vector database posed a significant challenge. To ensure Ember's accuracy and efficiency, we had to create precise embeddings for AI interpretation and minimize processing time. These were daunting tasks, but we stayed committed and overcame them successfully.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishment is the unity and synergy of our team, which allowed us to create a practical solution for a widespread issue. Despite the obstacles and moments of frustration, we persevered, often stepping back from the problem to revisit it with fresh eyes. The spirit of camaraderie and humility has been key to our success.

What we learned

This project has been an enlightening journey into the world of health and bioengineering, revealing the vast potential AI holds in this industry. We honed our skills in working with AI models, specifically GPT-4, vector storage, and real-time data systems. The project also underscored the importance of teamwork and the synergistic power of working towards a collective goal.

What's next for Ember

As we look ahead, we see a multitude of challenges in the health & fitness industry awaiting AI solutions. We aim to augment Ember's AI capabilities and refine its real-time data collection and feedback systems. We envision extending Ember's utility to healthcare professionals, delivering insightful data to help them discern abnormal health patterns and link lifestyle habits with health metrics. User testing is also on our radar to gather crucial feedback and continuously refine our product. Our end goal is to establish Ember as an invaluable aid for everyone embarking on a journey towards better health and wellbeing.
