Inspiration

Movies and TV shows have constantly fantasized about the idea of survival in extreme situations, whether it is emerging out of the wilderness in the woods or escaping a zombie apocalypse. Our survival kit draws inspiration from the show "Survivor" to devise an all-you-need kit to escape any survival challenge placed before you.

What it does

Our product provides a series of features to locate and inspect signs of creatures, living and non-living elements, vegetation, and danger in the wilderness around you. The map feature provides a three-dimensional look into the surrounding terrain, which can be further inspected using the filters provided. Firstly, the red-green zone filter scans the map and locates areas of high-danger (red zones) and low danger or safe areas (green zones). The automatic night vision filter detects light levels in the surroundings and is activated to navigate through the terrain. The thermal filter scans the surrounding terrain to look for signs of living/hostile creatures around you. Finally, the recognition feature shows an elaborate description of plants, animals, and creatures in the area indicating its strengths, weaknesses, and other necessary descriptions. A combination of these features enables one to survive the most extreme situations one is put through.

How we built it

The product is build using three-dimensional mapping techniques that generate three-dimensional replicas of the surrounding terrain. Additionally, thermal filters, night-vision filters, and recognition are utilized to provide necessary features to create a survival roadmap to overcome any challenging scenario.

Challenges we ran into

TechTogether, New York is the first hackathon for most of our group members, which posed a challenge to get used to the general dynamic and proceedings of hackathons. Although the initial starts were bumpy, I believe we crossed most obstacles that we ran into. Moreover, because none of us were familiar with video editing, thereby setting up presentations was initially tricky, however, using the suggestions and advice from the mentors we eventually found the necessary resources to help us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our most cherished accomplishment was developing an innovative and interactive idea that enables one to survive in the most extreme situations one may be exposed to. Integrating the elements of mapping and filters (thermal, recognition, night vision) to develop a reliable solution enhanced our creative ability and was one of the crucial accomplishments of the event.

What we learned

Our key learning takeaway from this hackathon is developing the team spirit, cooperation, and communication skills required for working on a collaborative project. Additionally developing critical analyzing techniques and reflective strategies were key components of our learning process.

What's next for

The next steps would involve dwelling deeper into our solution to explore the implementation of our proposed idea to be utilized in real-life scenarios. This event has been a learning journey and we hope we expand our creative horizons moving further.
