Inspiration

We all have younger siblings who spend a ton of time on Reels and TikTok. That got us thinking—what if they could actually learn while playing a game? With that idea in mind, we created a fun, engaging way to combine gaming with education.

What it does

EduConquest is a roguelike game where you play as a knight fighting monsters. But there's a twist—each time you encounter a monster, you get a quiz question generated by AI based on a topic of your choice. Answer correctly, and you damage the monster. Get it wrong, and you lose HP, but you also get an explanation of what you got wrong. If you're struggling, you can ask for a hint.

To make learning more interactive, you’re accompanied by a companion fairy, who provides explanations and hints, making sure you understand the material before moving forward. Along the way, you can pick up healing items, defeat all the monsters to advance to the next level, and explore multiple terrains. The best part? The game is infinite!

How we built it

We developed the game using Pygame for the gameplay mechanics and Cohere's API to generate dynamic quiz questions.

Challenges we ran into

Getting the AI prompts just right was a challenge—we had to fine-tune them for speed and accuracy. Learning a new framework while building an entire game was another hurdle, but we pushed through and made it work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're really proud of our idea and how well we worked as a team. Everyone contributed across different aspects of the project, and together, we built a fully functional, infinite game that’s both fun and educational.

What we learned

We learned how to integrate the Cohere API, how to pace ourselves in a high-pressure environment, and the importance of teamwork—especially during an intense 36-hour hackathon.

Difficulty levels that scale both combat and quiz challenges
