Inspiration

Waste Management is a growing problem in today's world. Governments are spending millions of dollars to effectively manage this waste. But the problem lies not in the waste but the habits of people. Among all the waste that goes into landfills and dumps most part of it can be recovered and recycled once again. This would not only help in managing waste but also save the valuable energy resources.

This application is an effort to develop a habit of properly disposing off the waste materials. For every waste item recycled the users get a credit which is a reward to them for making a sustainable choice. They can use these credits to purchase items from an inhouse store within the application.

What it does

The application helps the users to properly dispose off their waste items. It has 3 categories - glass items, metal cans and paper. Users can select one of these categories and the application shows the available disposable spots for those items. The application also prompts the uses to enter the quantity of items given for recycling. Based on this input, the application provides a credit to the user. There is a store within the application where the users can use their credits to purchase items of their choice.

How we built it

The application uses React.js for the frontend and Firebase for backend. For rendering the disposable spots, the application uses google maps.

Challenges we ran into

The application was technically challenging since it was my first-time using firebase. I really liked it since it helped me to speed up the dev process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The application was completed on time.

What we learned

We learnt about authentication with firebase and the use of firestore db.

What's next for EcoWealth
