Inspiration
Going to school every day, we approach tons of recycled and landfill bins surrounding the school's field. However, not everyone carefully considers sorting out trash holding on their hands. For that reason, we create a machine that can detect two categories of trash, including recycling and landfill types
What it does
Classifying between Landfill and Recyclable using a pre-trained YOLO model and a camera to detect whether the trash belongs to two of the two categories mentioned above
How we built it
Using 3mm plywood, Formex, and cardboard to build the prototype with some hardware kits like servos, jump wires, and Raspberry Pi 5 + ArduCam
Challenges we ran into
The calibration servo's angle, and we won't be able to finish the product as we want, as well as the waste tracking app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Able to achieve ML, and rushing our prototype in 24 hours with high critical thinking to solve the problems our product has.
What we learned
How to use fabrication tools and apply technologies to address the environmental problem.
What's next for EcoSort
- Complete the waste tracking app
- A higher and better computer
- Improvement in efficiency
- A more beautiful aesthetic design
