Inspiration

Our inspiration for the Ecosavvy Score drives from the data analysis from public datasets that developed our deep concern for environmental sustainability and the urgent need to address climate change. We are passionate about empowering individuals and organizations to take meaningful actions toward reducing their carbon emissions. By developing this calculator, we aim to provide an accessible tool that raises awareness and encourages responsible choices in daily life.

What it does

The Ecosavvy Score is a web-based application designed to help users estimate their personal monthly carbon footprint. It provides users with a detailed breakdown of their carbon emissions across various categories, such as energy consumption, transportation, food, and lifestyle choices. Users can input their data and receive feedback on their consumption as per the average consumption in the USA. This website contains several recommendations and statistics that might help in raising awareness about Carbon Footprint.

How we built it

We built Ecosavvy Score using a combination of modern web development technologies and environmental data sources. The core components of our project include:

1. Frontend: We used React to create an interactive and user-friendly interface.

2. Data Sources: We integrated data from reputable sources such as government emissions databases, transportation statistics, and energy consumption reports.

3. Accurate calculations with Climatiq: We took reference and APIs of Climatiq to have exact carbon calculations.

4. Plotly: We built beautiful maps and graphs with the help of Plotly during data analysis.

5. User Experience: We tried to make it as intuitive as possible.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of the Ecosavvy Score, we encountered several challenges, including:

1. Data Integration: Ensuring accurate and up-to-date data sources required extensive research and data cleaning.

2. Research: Finding out the best tools for accurate carbon calculations like Climatiq and integrating them with a working project.

3. Data Analysis: Finding out the public data set, studying them, and taking out important insights.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Successfully integrated multiple data sources to provide accurate carbon footprint estimates.
  2. Designed an engaging and informative user interface to keep users motivated.
  3. Created an algorithm that considers a wide range of factors to calculate carbon emissions.
  4. Included recommendations to help users reduce their carbon footprint.

What we learned

Throughout the development of this project, we learned valuable lessons about teamwork, data integration, and user-centered design. We gained a deeper understanding of the importance of individual actions in mitigating climate change and the potential impact of technology in driving sustainable behavior.

What's next for Ecosavvy Score

Our vision for the Carbon Footprint Calculator, which we've named "Ecosavvy Score" includes several future enhancements:

Mobile Application: We plan to develop a mobile app to make carbon footprint tracking even more accessible.

Social Integration: Integrating social features to encourage friendly competition and collaboration among users.

Partnerships: Exploring partnerships with environmental organizations and businesses to promote sustainability.

Real-time Data: Implementing real-time data updates and predictive modeling for future projections.

Thank you for considering Ecosavvy Score. We believe that this tool has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to the fight against climate change by empowering individuals and organizations to make informed choices and reduce their carbon emissions.
