Inspiration
My inspiration for this project was the weather in my city. I live in Dublin, California and ever since I moved here every summer the weather is very hot in the mid 80-90s throughout the season. This has remained consistent for about 8 until this year. I noticed that our summer start out with very cold weather that was very different than before, it was in the mid 60s and now it has soared to the high 90s and even pushing 100 degrees. This is because global warming and climate change are contributing to a change in the weather patterns. By making this platform to reduce emissions I am trying to help take one step forward in reducing the effects caused by humans on our climate and weather.
What it does
EcoLink connects individuals with eco-friendly businesses. This allows us as a society to reduce our carbon footprint. This will overall reduce emissions and help the environment in the long term.
How we built it
I built it using HTML, CSS, SCSS, and Javascript along with a template used for design.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges I ran into was being able to stay focused without another teammate. I also struggled with managing all the workload and having to complete the work all by myself.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of being able to finish this website individually without a team. This is the first time I've done something like this by myself and it was a very fun, but sometimes challenging experience.
What we learned
I learned a lot about carbon footprints and how they hurt our environment through research to build the website. I also learned about making a front-end for a website using HTML and CSS. Finally, I learned the importance of being connected with local farmers so we can reduce our impact on the environment.
What's next for EcoLink-TechTogether
I want to implement a carbon footprint calculator for different businesses to use to see how sustainable they are. I also want to implement a backend database to have user logins and also a better verification system.
