Inspiration
As an avid traveler and environmental enthusiast, we noticed the lack of easily accessible information on sustainable travel options. It's hard to gather accurate and up-to-date information on sustainable travel options and hundreds of apps to choose from with overlapping functionalities. This inspired us to create ecoGo, an app that provides users with eco-friendly travel options and encourages them to participate in ecotourism - all in one location.
What it does
ecoGo is a one-stop-shop for sustainable travel. It provides users with information on low emission flights, low emission car routes, bike routes, ride-share services, public transportation, eco-accommodations, and green activities. In addition, users are able to receive a text summarizing sustainable activities in the area chosen. By using ecoGo, travelers can reduce their carbon footprint and have a positive impact on the environment.
How we built it
Prototyping was done using Figma, and the text summarizing feature was done using cohere to generate summarizing of activities in an area, and twilio to send the text.
Challenges we ran into
Brainstorming, learning curve with Figma,
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Working together with new people to come up with a product
What we learned
Learned prototyping in figma and using APIs
What's next for ecoGo
Future goals is to continue to expand the app's reach and provide even more sustainable travel options for our users. By partnering with more eco-friendly businesses and organizations, we would be able to provide users with a wider range of low emission transportation options, eco-accommodations, and green activities. We also plan to incorporate a carbon offsetting feature into the app, allowing users to offset their carbon footprint while traveling by doing things such as donating to verified causes.
