Inspiration
When we were deciding the idea for the project we were thinking, What do people need and is not already existing? Then we came up with the idea of an online library, which was legal, had ratings, and most importantly, was free.
What it does
The website has numerous links to books that are in the public domain, such as "The Wizard of Oz." Now you may be thinking, aren't there already numerous sites for this? We did one thing differently, we implemented ratings that allow other users to recommend books to other users.
How we built it
We used HTML, Bootstrap, and CSS to do the frontend side of things. We then used Django for the backend, allowing logins and ratings for each book.
Challenges we ran into
For the backend, I had trouble formatting the data from the database into a well readable format. My teammates had trouble with having a consistent, good looking website that functioned well with the backend. We had trouble with coordination of the making of the website, but we eventually found a good flow.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We're proud of learning and implementing/incorporating various new different technologies into our website.
What we learned
We learned parallax, scrolling, and various other front-end tricks. We also learned how to implement a sign/login and a rating (like/dislike) system.
What's next for eBookCore
We're thinking of implementing user-generated content into our websites, where moderators can review them and engage with our community. We would also like to add more books in the public domain to our website and also implement a better book sorting system/search bar. Additionally, we hope to polish/better our rating system by adding comments and negative ratings.
