Inspiration
College students, for the most part, are ... pretty broke. We wanted to encourage better spending habits, especially in terms of food. Restaurants are expensive and each meal can add up. Saving that money frees up a lot of extra cash :)
What it does
It was intended to allow the user to search for a meal they have in mind and compare the price of eating out vs. the price of cooking. We also wanted to incorporate distance and total time it takes to eat out vs. cook in.
How we built it
We built it with React.JS, HTML, CSS, and the Spoonacular API (of which we exhausted the free tier...)
Challenges we ran into
3/4 of us were entirely new to the tech stack we used and hackathons in general. We also attempted to use React Native before switching to React but weren't able to really make use of the emulator all that efficiently.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
3/4 of us were entirely new to the tech stack we used and hackathons in general!!!! It was a really great learning experience.
What we learned
How to work on a team and create ideas together.
What's next for EatIn Good
We'd like to make it functional, incorporate some more APIs, Convert it to a budgeting app for food like (x money spent on groceries = x many meals), and a food sharing app (x meal has 5 servings you can make - share with friends or have leftovers for the week)
