Inspiration

When looking at Open Data NYC, Parakram and I saw that there was a restaurant inspection dataset that contained more info than the official grading provided. We thought it was interesting how there were a lot of A graded restaurants which had multiple violations, so we decided that it would probably be interesting to people to know what violations there are for a specific place.

What it does

Takes the data from Open Data NYC, reviews from Google Places, and put them together, with the reviews being analyzed semantically.

How we built it

We used Node Express React combination to bring the most responsive design possible. We were really concerned with how some map applications handle search and how sometimes irresponsive they are.

Challenges we ran into

There was a time constraint on us that we did not think would be limiting, but in the end has impeded us from creating a more polished application. We really wanted to create a fluid experience, and both of us being mostly backend heavy, figuring out how to do the intricacies of front end was a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really happy to be done in a short timeframe, considering both of us couldn't code on Saturday.

What we learned

We learned a few new things while making this project, including how to use google maps and stylize it, semantics

What's next for Eat Safe NYC

We are looking to add a user system so that we could have our own reviews generated, allowing us to have more data to base our analysis on.
