Inspiration

We wanted to make a game that conveys an important social message about the environment. It's hard for people to acknowledge the consequences of environmental decay until it directly affects them so that's exactly what we did. We made a game where it is the objective for the player to clean up after others, to feel the consequences of other people's disregard for environment.

What it does

It's a classic top down dungeon crawler game but instead of enemies you are picking up trash. Your progress determines the environment day by day.

How we built it

We used Unity.

Challenges we ran into

Designing a full fletched game even with such a small scope was never going to be easy given the time constraints, our biggest hurdles were implementing the niche mechanics that come with the unique design of our game.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The implementation of many different sprites and designs from many art styles cohesively into one game. The combat mechanics and boss fights as well as the intuitive game design.

What we learned

Proper pacing and project management is crucial even if the duration of this hackathon is much longer than usual ones.

What's next for Dungeon Cleaners

We seek to flesh out the game even post-submission and potentially publish it as a fun indie side game on Steam.
