Motive Behind the Idea

The theme was Set in Stone which made me think of games that have been played for hundreds of years like chess and tic-tac-toe (naughts and crosses). What I like about these two games is they are both pure skill strategy games, this means no luck is involved - which I think has been a pivotal to the success of these games. However, there are some glaring weaknesses of these games - tic-tac-toe is too simple meaning even new players so learn the optimal strategy and then no player can ever win - chess on the other hand has a steep learning curve which makes it hard for new players to get into the game. Therefore I created Duck Duels with the strategical complexity of a game like chess combined with the simplicity of a game like tic-tac-toe.

The Lore

Duck Duels is set in the deep dark caverns out of reach of the light's touch. For millennial, the duck tribes have waged war on one another, competing for the ever depleting resources down in the deep. Among the many armies, one battalion type stands out from the rest of them - they are the earth mages. Each earth mage is strong enough to level an entire infantry all on their own, so when two mages meet on the battlefield, things get ugly fast. Luckily, there exists a method to subdue a mage for good... it is known as "The JAR". However, "The JAR" takes time to deploy and is easily dodged so opposing earth mages must limit their opponents movement making use of earth magic to conjure boulders to block their opponents path. Duck Duels challenges you to strategically maneuver your opponent into a stony prison so that they can be sealed away forever within "The JAR".
