Inspiration
We wanted to make a simple game so we could actually finish something and a carnival game came to mind. It's pretty obvious that we wanted to create a game like one of those duck shooters or "toss a ball" atters.
What it does
Our game has a simple gameloop of trying to get the highest score during 5 rounds of ducks.
How we built it
We used Godot to create the game for two reasons: we wanted to learned more about Godot, and that it would be more lightweight than unity.
Challenges we ran into
So..... we don't actually know how to use Godot so doing anything was a challenge since we wanted to use GDScript. We also wanted to try vector graphics for this project as we thought it would look cool!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is probably the closest we've gotten to an actual finished product for most of the hackathons we've done and learning Godot on top of that made this is a pretty satisfying experience.
What we learned
The basics of Godot, it's heiarchy, how Nodes work, the whole shebang. Vector graphics; more specifically, how to use Inkscape as it was a free tool to create vector art.
What's next for Duck Duck Shoot
When brainstorming how to make this game more interesting, we thought of 9 more powerup ducks like the golden duck that would aid the player in different ways. We also thought about Co-op and Versus. Since this is supposed to be on a console, playing with you friend for some local-coop action is a blast so we wanted to incorrporate that in Duck Duck Shoot Initially, we also thought of adding Wiimote support as this game really feels like some wii mini-game.
