Starting this hackathon, we knew we wanted to go through with the connectivity track, where we first brought up the idea of a sort of friendship making app with music interests. However we wanted a more interactable app which brought us to the idea of being able to send music recommendations to a user directly to their phone via text messages.
This project's work was split into 3 groups for 4 people: 2 programmers, 1 UX/UI designer, and 1 acting entrepreneur/product manager. We first started the project with the idea of sending music recommending text messages via the Twilio API using Python, which led us to create the foundation of the app design to focus on the "Song of the Day". This allowed us to extend the idea of the app beyond the primary function and visualize an app that could also display concerts nearby to the user, a way for artists using the app to advertise their concert to the locals in the area. Although we did get the Twilio API working to send messages, we had to remove the code input that would give us the geolocation and concert displays since the API's we wanted to access weren't available anymore.
Other than the one hiccup, our project is overall a success. Being able to send music recommendations of specific genres via text message, while showcasing a visual to how the app would work.
