Inspiration
Rhythm games and musical practice.
What it does
Simulates a drumming environment in VR.
How we built it
DrumFree was custom modelled in Blender by Richard and Henry. The mechanics of the experience were built in Unity, by calling an audio file to run every time a drumstick hit a drum or cymbal.
Challenges we ran into
Our primary obstacle on DrumFree was balancing our busy schedules with school and work to make time for the project. All of us were complete beginners at Unity development and so there was also a significant hurdle in learning the built-in functions and fields used to create the experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completing a useful VR project within the time constraints of HackReality while handling our full time school work and part time jobs.
What we learned
Unreal is better than Unity
What's next for DrumFree VR
We hope to implement MIDI mapping for realistic sounds in relation to the power of the hit. Additionally, we also feel that songs that the user can play along to would create significant value in the product. We also hope to make the drum kits customizable so users can create a unique drum experience with as many drums and cymbals as they like!
