Inspiration
People need an easy way to receive messages and files with each other without sharing an email address or building contact forms. Especially content creators.
What it does
dropComms allows anyone to select a username then receive files + messages from anyone simply by sharing this username. Like a phone number for the internet that acts like a digital fax machine.
How we built it
The idea was mine. I’d wanted to build something where users could receive messages from others to a scrollable feed without having to share any personal info. While I’m familiar with coding I can’t do anything from scratch. I’ve been building projects like this since 2001, dial up days. Now there’s Ai. Thank God.
Challenges we ran into
All my projects are my own original ideas. But I can’t code from scratch. I am not comfortable with delegating coding work. I don’t want my ideas stolen. God bless Ai + vibe coding agents! I’m now able to build all these cool tools that had been living in one of my 37 notebooks of ideas.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I conceived my own idea. Found a way to build it. Actually built it + it worked. I’m an “idea guy” + I’ve been working to do this since 2001. Now I’m able to actual take action. Iterate. Try things out. Daily. It’s awesome. I love technology.
What we learned
Don’t plan for every minute detail. Get an idea, go to work. Stop adding features, just ship something. Don’t build in public. Learn in public. Iterate. No one will ever release a “perfect” product. Keep planning and not taking action and you’ll soon talk yourself out of it. Recognize self-sabotage.
What's next for dropComms
I want to see people benefiting from what I’ve built. Tell me what they like. What they don’t. I just want to see something I’ve worked on for so long actually being used to improve the lives of others. Oh, and making a profit would be nice too.
