Inspiration

This project is inspired by nothing but our own personal experiences with biking. While seemingly simple, biking to school on a busy day is usually a scary experience. Having bikers taking tight turns and drivers trying to get their kids to school while still making it to work on time has led to people falling off their bikes, drivers getting mad, and teachers/staff getting involved to help maintain order while biking. We all have had less than memorable experiences with biking and this inspired us to create the basis for a website to learn about biking safety to help resolve this issue.

What it does

As for what the website accomplishes, it is a simple information page that teaches bike safety little by little in an interactive experience with a quiz that tracks user progress over time.

How we built it

This website was made using Python along with JS/HTML/CSS.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many errors trying to merge the Python graph with our quiz code due to the unfamiliarity of the two languages. We struggled to find a way to link the two different pages using JS and HTML. This problem also arose when trying to merge any code that wasn't Python to another language, thus leading to hours lost trying to problem-solve. This was all due to our unfamiliarity with the languages.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We, as a team, are very proud to have a project that means a lot to us due to us all having biked at one point in our lives. We are also proud of the fact that even given no experience with the languages that we were using, we still finished the website with most if not all of what we wanted to accomplish.

What we learned

As for what we learned, we learned a lot about the struggles of trying to integrate different languages into one base project due to our unfamiliarity with many languages, with us just being accustomed to one language. We also dived off the deep end into HTML, with none of us having experience with the language. In addition, we also learned to tackle problems with creative solutions.

What's Next for Driving Safety

The next step for this problem is a globally scaled app. In the future, we see an app implemented with the car on-board system to help drivers determine whether a turn is safe for them and the biker in the area. This app would see a lot of use for those with children going to school as they would have to deal with young bikers a lot of the time. On the other hand, there would also be another version of the app for bikers. Using any type of mound, this app would expand on google maps and would help bikers bike more safely.
