Inspiration

Our team has two busy students who have morning classes. Every day we wake up early and sleepy but we still have to think about what to wear. Standing in front of the closet, we need to check the weather app on the phone first and go into the closet to pick two or more clothes that could match. This inspires us to build an app that could help us get the appropriate clothes, but still have some degree of freedom to choose; many outfit planning apps either don't give any advice or just give a simple, inflexible recommendation.

What it does

DressingMyDay is a simple app that only requires the user to type in the type of one piece of cloth they want to wear for the day. After that, the app will get the weather by using GPS to find the position of the user and get the temperature to give suggestions on what type and texture of the cloth to wear based on the weather.

How we built it

We built it using primarily Javascript, HTML&CSS, OpenWeatherMap API and a bit of JSON. Ella takes charge of building the UI and front-end things and is programmed by mainly HTML and some JavaScript. Sicily is responsible for the back-end and algorithm part to produce rational suggestions to the user.

Challenges we ran into

Ella attempted using a new framework and a new language that she is not so familiar with so she has to self-learn a lot. It is the first time that Sicily takes charge of the whole back-end and algorithm part in JavaScript, so she also needs hard work to complete her work. While we initially began with a mobile app framework, we had to switch to a website due to time constraints and some technical difficulties.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As two hackathon and even programming beginners, we have tried our best and did a pretty good job. DressingMyDay does have some real-life meaning and could help the users. And Ella designed a very pretty UI!

What we learned

Ella has learned how to use the Quasar framework and work in JavaScript.
Sicily learned more about how to use outside resources. They both learn how to connect the front-end and back-end and team collaboration.

What's next for DressingMyDay

We are going to make it more functional. We will add the color options to it so we can also match the color. We will also try to make DressingMyDay allow users to build their virtual closet in the app.
Making DressingMyDay beyond the simple outfit planning app is also the thing that we want to do. We could forecast the future weather and tell the user what they need for next weeks so if they do not have it they could buy it. Finally, DressingMyDay will be a mobile app, its original intention. We believe that this app will save us time.
