Inspiration
Crypto are supposed to be the cutting edge technology to bring opportunities for more people and give back the power to the users with decentralization, however there are not so many projects intended to create impact on the real world and even less those which main focus is helping fair causes.
Donaty born with the idea to bring DeFi to Non-Profit and Charity organizations, making possible for everyone to propose a fair cause to solve a real world problem, ensuring transparency and the ability to check if the funding is being used honestly and transparently.
What it does
Donaty opens the opportunity to create non-profit causes with a specific goal in mind, NFT artists can contribute to the cause Minting and Selling their NFT's to the public. 80% of the profits are for the proposal and 20% are for the artist.
To ensure the transparency on the process and the correct management of the funds, each proposal has it's own Governance DAO on which the NFT owners will vote to decide if the funding is going to be released to the Non-profit organization. For that purpose the Charity will have the responsibility to regularly post updates on the progress of the proposal and how the money was used to fulfill the objectives.
How we built it
- We used Solidity for the Smart contracts, deployed with Brownie Python Frameworks.
- The backend Architecture was made using AWS
- Moralis was the SDK for the Frontend.
- The UI/UX design was made with Figma
- Flutter was our main framework for the Mobile app.
Challenges we ran into
Normally a DeFi project which rely into a DAO will have just one big organization, but Donaty was made to have multiple Daos co-existing with each other, the technical challenges we had to were mainly related to integrate all the systems to work together.
Not mentioning that Connecting Moralis with AWS was a challenging yet really fulfillment experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Leo: be able to finish all the requirements initially raised. Altair: Understand how Flutter, backend and the blockchain can work together. Mario: The way we took this big idea and how we managed to create a functional project with huge growing capabilities. Wayner: Create a modern and reliable architecture in AWS capable to be connected to web3 SDKs such as Moralis. Vasiliy: I'm proud to be able to code the smart contracts and not dying in the process LoL.
What we learned
- The complex but reliable process of creating a DAO.
- How we can integrate some web2 Technologies with web3 ones.
- The ability to work asynchronously on a big scale project.
What's next for Donaty
We want Donaty to became de number one preferred choice for fund rising Non-Profit projects, so the next item on road map is to contact existing organizations and get them in touch with artists. We want to achieve at least 5 real world project till the end of the year.
