DocVisit is a mobile application designed to bridge the gap in healthcare access for low-income, rural, and marginalized communities.

The app aims to connect individuals in these communities with NGOs, volunteer doctors and nurses, and mobile clinics, making it easier for them to receive the care they need.

Our Inspiration

The idea for DocVisit was conceived after hearing the experiences of our older brother, who was volunteering at RotaCare. He shared stories about individuals coming into the clinic, often in urgent need of care, and how many of them wished they had discovered the clinic’s services earlier. This motivated us to create an app that would help people find healthcare services more easily and earlier, especially in underserved areas.

How it works

Users can create an account by providing basic details such as their name, email, phone number, and address, making it easy to personalize the experience. After account creation, users are prompted to select a type of service they need. Options include general check-ups, mental health services, women's health, and urgent care. Depending on the chosen service, users can select from specific options tailored to their healthcare needs, such as "Fever" or "Cough" for general check-ups or "Psychiatrist Services" for mental health support. Users enter their area code, which helps the app identify local medical services available nearby. After entering the area code, users are shown a list of nearby healthcare services, including free clinics, home visitation programs, and other essential healthcare providers that they might otherwise not know about.

How we made it

We used Python, with the Tkinter library, and got the information from an ArcGIS map. The idea for DocVisit came to life when our older brother was volunteering at RotaCare, a free medical clinic. He often spoke about the people who came in—many of whom were in urgent need of care but hadn’t known about the clinic until it was almost too late. Their stories about delayed care and missed opportunities inspired us to create a solution that could help bridge these gaps in healthcare access, ensuring that more people could find out about available services before their health deteriorated. This is why DocVisit is designed not just as an app but as a tool for awareness, connection, and early access to healthcare resources for those who need it most.
