Inspiration
According to Feeding America, "In the United States, people waste 80 million tons of food every year, which equals 149 billion meals." This is also equal to 38% of food produced annually in the US. Our project intends to combat the prevailing issue of food waste using the blockchain.
What it does
Our project is a marketplace for suppliers and buyers to sell and purchase good respectively. The marketplace is unique because every transaction is stored on the blockchain. The use of blockchain to store every transaction forces suppliers to be held accountable for distributing their goods.
How we built it
We are using React.jsx for the frontend, PostGreSQL for the database, python for the backend, hardhat for the Ethereum transactions, and solidity for the smart contracts.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into trouble establishing the database and understanding how to implement blockchain into our project, as it is a technology we all came in unfamiliar with.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud of pushing through being able to complete this project despite our roadblocks and many hours spent dealing with frustrating issues.
What we learned
We learned how to use blockchain in development environments and practiced the fundamentals of full stack development.
What's next for team regulations
We need to plan ahead more and set more realistic goals for our product, as we came in needing to learn a lot about the technology.
