Imagine a disaster strikes — an earthquake, flood, or cyclone.
In those critical moments, the biggest problem is not the disaster itself… it’s lack of communication, coordination, and real-time help. That’s where DisasterConnect comes in. DisasterConnect is an AI-powered, offline-first emergency response platform designed to save lives when the internet fails. It enables: 📡 Offline SOS alerts using mesh networking 🤖 AI safety assistant guiding victims step-by-step in real time 🗺️ Smart location tracking to connect victims with nearest responders 👥 Volunteer & rescue coordination dashboard for efficient action 🌐 Multilingual support so help is accessible to everyone Unlike traditional systems that collapse without internet, DisasterConnect works even in zero-network zones, ensuring no one is left unheard. Our mission is simple: 👉 Turn chaos into coordination 👉 Turn panic into guided action 👉 Turn isolation into connection In a world where disasters are increasing, DisasterConnect doesn’t just respond… it empowers survival. Inspiration 💡 Inspiration Disasters often break communication systems, leaving people helpless and disconnected. We wanted to build a solution that works even without internet and ensures help reaches everyone. ⚙️ What it does DisasterConnect is an AI-powered, offline-first platform that allows users to send SOS alerts, get real-time safety guidance, and connect with nearby rescuers and volunteers during emergencies. 🛠️ How we built it We used Next.js and React for the frontend, integrated AI for safety guidance, implemented offline capabilities, and designed a smart dashboard for rescue coordination. ⚡ Challenges we ran into Building reliable offline communication, managing real-time coordination, and designing an intuitive UI for high-stress situations were major challenges. 🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of We successfully created a working prototype that functions without internet and provides AI-based guidance, making disaster response faster and smarter. 📚 What we learned We learned how to build scalable systems, handle real-world problems, improve teamwork, and design user-focused solutions under pressure. 🔮 What's next for DisasterConnect We plan to integrate real-time maps, improve mesh networking, partner with authorities, and deploy it as a real-world disaster response solution.
