Inspiration

The idea for DieAgnosis sprung from the common internet habit of searching for health symptoms and often encountering the worst-case scenarios. We wanted to create a light-hearted, satirical tool that pokes fun at this habit by intentionally linking any symptom to the most severe, unlikely diseases, reminding users of the absurdity and risks of self-diagnosing serious conditions online.

What it does

DieAgnosis is a humorous web-based application where users can enter any symptom they're experiencing. Instead of a realistic diagnosis, the tool comically exaggerates, presenting the gravest possible diseases associated with that symptom. The aim is to provide a tongue-in-cheek perspective on online self-diagnosis, making users smile while subtly educating them about the dangers of misinterpreting medical information on the internet.

How we built it

We developed DieAgnosis using a combination of web development technologies and a custom-built algorithm. The frontend was created with HTML, CSS for an engaging user interface. The backend, built using Python and Flask, integrates with a medical database to fetch disease information. Our unique algorithm is designed to exaggerate the symptom-disease relationship, ensuring the results are humorously far-fetched yet technically accurate.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring our content was amusing without being offensive, especially considering the serious nature of health issues. We also faced technical challenges in algorithm design, aiming for results that are exaggerated but still have a basis in medical fact.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating an application that not only entertains but also raises awareness about the pitfalls of online self-diagnosis. Our successful integration of humor with medical data in a user-friendly platform stands as a testament to our team's creativity and technical skills.

What we learned

This project was an enlightening journey in understanding medical databases, and user experience design. We also gained valuable insights into user behavior and the impact of digital tools on health awareness.

What's next for DieAgnosis

Moving forward, we plan to enhance DieAgnosis by including a wider range of symptoms and diseases, potentially adding a feature that offers legitimate health advice or directs users to professional medical help. We also aim to expand our educational content, helping users understand why self-diagnosis can be misleading and promoting responsible use of online health resources.
