Inspiration
DevHub was inspired by Devpost, LinkedIn, and Notion. Using Devpost as a base for design, we created an extension of the website specifically for hackers to view the event schedule, announcements, workshops, and network with others.
What it does
Introducing DevHub, the ultimate app for all your hackathon needs! Whether you're an experienced hacker or a first-timer, DevHub is the perfect tool to help you navigate hackathons with ease.
Firstly, DevHub acts as a comprehensive schedule for all the events happening at hackathons. With this application, you'll never miss a workshop, keynote, or competition again. You can easily browse through the schedule and get the location of the event.
In addition, DevHub also provides a platform for hackers to connect and form teams. You can create a profile, search for other hackers based on their skills, and start building your dream team. With our messaging feature, you can easily communicate with your team members and make sure everyone is on the same page.
But that's not all, DevHub also incentivizes hackers to attend workshops by implementing gamification. Attend workshops, events, and meals to gain points and climb to the top of the leaderboard. You'll not only learn valuable skills, but also have the chance to win prizes and bragging rights!
Finally, registration at the physical location of the hackathon is made easy with our QR code feature. Simply scan the code and you're all set to start hacking.
With DevHub, you'll have everything you need to make the most out of any hackathon. So what are you waiting for? Download DevHub today and start attending hackathons!
How we built it
The DevHub app was conceptualized, designed, and prototyped on Figma.
Challenges we ran into
During the hackathon, our team faced several challenges. Firstly, we struggled with ensuring that the flow of our prototype made sense for the user. We had to constantly iterate and refine the user journey to make it more intuitive and user-friendly.
Secondly, we encountered difficulties in collecting primary research. We initially had planned to conduct interviews with potential users outside of our school, but due to time constraints, we had to settle with interviewing our fellow colleagues at school.
Lastly, we had challenges in curating a set of key features for our app that would be helpful for the user. It was difficult to strike a balance between providing enough features to be useful, but not overwhelming the user with too many options. We had to carefully prioritize and refine our feature set to create a product that was both functional and user-friendly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to offer a comprehensive event schedule within the app that allows users to easily see what's happening at the hackathon and plan their time accordingly. Moreover, we are proud of our ideation process and the feature we came up with to incentivize users to attend workshops, events, and meals in order to win prizes or points that contribute to a leaderboard. This would help combat the ongoing problem of hackers not attending workshops or other events and encourage attendees to attend workshops and participate in other activities at the hackathon.
What we learned
As a team, we learned the importance of healthy group dynamics, compromise, and time management. All of us brought our own strengths and helped one another learn new skills, such as auto layout and components on Figma. In addition, this project aided in enhancing our design thinking; we also learned how to creatively solve problems and come up with innovative design solutions within these constraints.
What's next for DevHub
In the future, we hope that DevHub will be used as inspiration or as a functioning mobile application to streamline the hackathon experience.
