Inspiration

We desired to build a dedicated platform for fashion designers and digital fashion. This would enable them to host their exclusive designs and reach out to fashion enthusiasts. The platform is intended to be decentralized so that it is not owned or controlled by any single entity or company. Also there are no intermediaries and thereby no loss in revenue as commission to third parties.

We incorporated NFTs into the platform as a means for designers and brands to tokenize their digital work. NFTs or Non-Fungible Tokens represent a unique digital asset, which can be incorporated by brands and designers into their marketing strategy.

What it does

DeSigner Forum is a decentralized social media that can be used by fashion designers to post their exclusive designs and create NFTs. They can put up their NFTs for sale on the DeSo Blockchain. Fashion enthusiasts can visit the platform and view the NFTs of popular designers. They can choose to purchase or bid for NFTs. They can also provide tips to the designer in the form of diamonds, which can be later redeemed for DeSo tokens. This will help designers have additional revenue streams and enable them to provide exclusive content for their admirers. Fashion enthusiasts can also follow and create posts on the decentralized social media powered by DeSo. Using the platform as a lookbook helps designers to gain wider outreach and aids fashion brands in marketing.

How we built it

We built the platform on the DeSo Blockchain. We developed the frontend application using React and TailwindCSS. We used DeSo Protocol to interact with the DeSo Blockchain which acts as our backend. It allows login using DeSo Identity, creating posts or NFTs and selling NFTs or tipping posts.

Challenges we ran into

We were new to DeSo and had to spent some amount of time on it before we got the hang of it. We faced some issues with the logout functionality but were able to rectify it later. The initial strategy we had devised for creating NFTs did not work as we intended. We later ideated and derived a simpler method and we could finally get it done within the stipulated time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take pride in having been able to complete our hack within the limited time period. We're proud that were able to successfully build a working prototype within the weekend, using a technology that we were completely new to. We're incredibly pleased to have built a hack that would be useful to the fashion industry.

What we learned

We learned to use DeSo and its API. The DeveloperHub was very useful in helping us pull it off.

What's next for DeSigner Forum

We intend to have custom coins for fashion designers. Integrations with other fashion applications, Metaverse and virtual try-ons are also on the cards. There could also be a rewards system for the followers, to encourage adoption.
