Delve: A market space for artists

Delve is an online marketplace designed for artists to offer their services and for individuals and corporations to purchase them.

Why Delve?

Back in December, my employer, a media production company was disbanded. About 150 individuals lost their jobs. I was a member of the creative team and worked among graphic designers. In the four months that have passed, only one graphic designer has found a new employer.

The digital art market is rife with talented individuals looking to produce art for pay, in addition to thousands of businesses and corporations in search of artists for a large variety of reasons. However, there is currently no major website that allows artists to market their services towards interested buyers. Current most popular "marketing" services are social media pages such as Instagram or Twitter; however, these sites infamously have algorithms that do not support the arts, and an artist should not be required to maintain a large social media following just to make a living.

What Delve does

Delve is a concept for an online market space specifically designed for artists. It is intended to provide artists with a platform specifically required to market their services to a variety of groups, such as individuals looking to commission a portrait of their grandmother or even television organizations looking to hire animators for a new original series. Delve is designed to promote a variety of different potential artists for purchasers' inquiries; additionally, artists can specify what sort of work they are interested in pursuing.

How we built it

Delve is entirely conceptual; in other words, there is no code involved in this submission. I'm not a programmer, but I am an artist who's saddened by seeing their talented friends not having the representation they need to make a career out of their craft. The submission features a series of potential features Delve could include, in addition to details relating to SEO and algorithm performance on the website itself.

What's next for Delve

Delve is an ambitious and risky project; online marketplaces and social media sites infamously have at least some dependency on network externalities to successfully function. However, for the time being, Delve is intended to provide some sort of direction towards artists successfully connecting to proper individuals and for buyers having an easier opportunity to pursue artistic endeavors.
