Inspiration
The game was initially inspired by the Legend of Zelda, but we planned to make the game more roguelike.
What it does
Davida Dungeon is a game that, in its current implementation, has killer slimes and randomly generated floors.
How we built it
None of us had too much experience with OOP before this project, so this project was a dip into OOP for all of us. Pygame with Objects was our method of choice.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of indecisiveness. We initially started by building the game in Godot, but the learning curve seemed a bit steep for this event. Then we swapped to SFML, but we went too far without realizing that not everyone could read and write C++. Then, in the last bit, we changed to Pygame. If we had come in with a more general design in mind, we might have finished.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We wrote the entire game with no graphics library. We wrote a sprite sheet reader that could make lists out of the images. The music and visuals are nice for the time given.
What we learned
We learned quite a bit about OOP and how to work together, and plan to be prepared for the next hackathon.
What's next for Davida Dungeon
Finish writing the C++/SFML version of the game and finish the puzzle element.
