Inspiration

When investigating the main hurdles faced by adults hindering their attempts to adopt dietary and physical activity changes in their lifestyles, key barriers include a lack of motivation, time constraints, and monotony. With the growing influence of technology, we were inspired to create a solution that provides users with daily, convenient and fun activities to participate in to enhance their physical activity. Through our app’s points-to-rewards system, we aim to guide and motivate users in their journey toward developing or strengthening consistent and healthy fitness habits!

What it does

DareVenture is a mobile app where users are given daily prompts for wellness activities. Users can maintain their streak and earn venture points by completing the daily activity, which can be used to redeem discounts towards products of partnering outdoor apparel and equipment companies. Not only will users enjoy discounted items while working towards a healthy lifestyle, but DareVenture will also be able to work with a wide market in the fitness and wellbeing industry.

All channels are interconnected to create a unified experience for our users. The redeemed discount can either be used as a coupon if the user is purchasing online or applied during in-person shopping through a barcode in our mobile app. DareVenture sends push notifications and personalized emails with reminders, progress updates, and motivational messages to keep users engaged across different channels.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we encountered was setting up and connecting the backend as we had never used react native with mongodb before. Since DareVenture has a photo gallery of users’ history of venture photos, we spent a long time trying to figure out how to implement the photo gallery system. Storing the images as an image URI was not working since the photos were stored locally on my device. However, we eventually figured it out by changing it to storing as a base64 image and fixing the other buys that came with this change.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Actually getting the photo gallery to work
  • The Figma prototype of our DareVenture mobile app design is simple and easy to navigate between pages

What we learned

One thing we learned is how to work together as a team on this project. Through these 24 hours, we learned to use git to create branches, push changes and pull updates correctly so our code doesn’t overlap and clash.

What's next for DareVenture

Prevent Unqualified Venture Posts or Inappropriate Content From Being Posted To Redeem Points *Utilize advanced algorithms and AI technology to automatically detect potential inappropriate (violence, hate speech, etc.) and unqualified content (random picture of a wall to get more points)

  • The algorithm will analyze the images to identify contents that violate DareVenture’s community guidelines

User Reporting System

  • Allow users to report inappropriate or unqualified content that violates DareVenture’s community guidelines by clicking the “Report” button, selecting a category of violation (or others), and submitting the report for review by the DareVenture moderation team.

Redeeming Products using Venture Points

  • Barcode to redeem the product in person
  • A code to redeem a coupon and purchase the product online

Users can buy products from the DareVenture app directly without having to be redirected to the product’s website

  • Allows users to perform all functions from uploading venture prompts to purchasing items all in the DareVenture mobile app.

Personalized profile

  • User can get personalized recommendations for reward items through algorithm and user data.
