Inspiration

We've all heard the emergency room horror stories - having to wait in a crowded-as-all-hell waiting room, worried sick or suffering through pain, and not having the slightest clue as to when you'll be called in; it's a situation none of us want to be in, and yet, it's one that we will surely experience at some point in our lives. "Does it have to be that way, though? ", we thought, and thus, Cura was born.

What it does

It provides the patient insight into their wait time and lab testing info, while also giving them some entertainment and other useful information.

How we built it

We used Python and its Flask library to build the back-end of the web app, and we used HTML and CSS to make the front-end. We've also used APIs such as the OpenAI API and the Positionstack API for advanced functionality.

Challenges we ran into

The largest problem we had to deal with were the bugs that came with our attempts at API integration.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of being able to make a partially-working prototype of such an ambitious idea in just 24 hours.

What we learned

The experience of building the app with advanced libraries (like Flask) and advanced APIs (like the OpenAI API) allowed us to learn more about the respective technologies, and the process of making the app as a whole gave us an insight into the world of software development as a whole.

What's next for Cura

Well, if our idea gets enough positive feedback, we do plan on working on it further to make it fully functional, and then deploy it under the company name of Cura Inc. We will use ads and a monthly licensing fee as means to finance the server-side infrastructure required to run the site, and perhaps make a profit in the long term.

Note: We've included a Figma link below as well, which shows our future vision for Cura. (It includes some copyrighted content for representation purposes)
