Inspiration

Growing up in a multicultural environment, we've always been fascinated by the diversity of cultures around the world. However, we noticed a lack of user-friendly and engaging resources to learn about different countries' cultures. This inspired us to create Cultivate, a platform that makes cultural exploration fun and educational for everyone. As cross-cultural interaction increases in this digital age, Cultivate aims to spread awareness about the richness and beauty of diverse cultures, fostering understanding and appreciation among people from all walks of life.

What it does

Cultivate is a cultural educational app that teaches people about the cultures of different countries through lessons, trivia, concept checks, and interactive modules. Users can engage in a gamified learning experience to explore global cultures through lessons, trivia, concept checks, rewards, and interactive modules. Users can learn about different countries, from their vibrant traditions and cuisine to their fascinating history and art.

How we built it

We began the development process by sketching wireframes of our app screens and then developed our interactive app prototype through Figma. By adding animations, control variables, and on-click button events, we created an accurate prototype that encapsulates the user's experience.

Next, we delved deeper into the cultures of countries we were familiar with and proud of, such as India. This involved thorough research to ensure we captured the essence of each culture accurately. Leveraging our understanding and passion for Indian culture, we curated engaging content and trivia questions to showcase its richness.

Challenges we ran into

A significant challenge we encountered was elevating the functionality of the app beyond mere design. While Figma served as an excellent tool for visualizing our ideas, transitioning to a functioning prototype required additional effort. We had to explore various prototyping tools and techniques to integrate interactive elements seamlessly into the app. Moreover, navigating team disagreements and adjusting to a larger team dynamic on an unfamiliar platform posed initial challenges in our Cultivate journey.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our ability to efficiently transform our vision into a tangible product. Despite the challenges, we dedicated ourselves to the task and managed to create a prototype that offers users a comprehensive experience. From avatars representing diverse cultures to interactive quizzes and delightful Easter eggs like India's national animal and flower, the app reflects our commitment to crafting an immersive and enjoyable cultural exploration journey.

What we learned

Despite our initial unfamiliarity with Figma, we quickly grasped its fundamentals through collaborative learning which enabled us to integrate advanced functionalities into our app. We also learned how to prototype an app, showcasing our collective creativity and ability to overcome obstacles. Finally, we learned the importance of user experience design in creating engaging educational content and the value of continuous iteration based on user feedback.
