Inspiration

We were inspired by the need to have a dating platform that is more focused on making people swipe on thoughts, not photos. Our solution is a hybrid social media + dating app. The name Cuepid was inspired by our special profile feature to show someone is ready to date: a heart cue. <3

What it does

Cuepid is a dating app with a twist: it's actually an educational social media platform. No dating required! Learn from educators, users with dating experiences, and seek advice on a blog-style platform. Answer questionnaires to teach others about yourself, your preferences, and your love style. Take quizzes to test your knowledge on dating. Ask Suki the owl if you have questions left unanswered by the community. Put a cue next to your username to connect with others based on your posts.

How we built it

We started building the front end using React Native. Then we created the database on MongoDB, created a cluster, and gave any IP address access to connect to the app. We then focused on the social side of our app, creating post, like, share, love, and repost options. We also made a heart cue to signal that users are looking for love.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was connected MongoDB with front end. We also had issues with creating the chatbot. Making two sides of app: socials and dating and trying to make them distinct from each other when it comes to privacy was a fun creative challenge for us. Of course, the time constraint of the hackathon was also challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our creativity with filling a gap in dating app industry. Cuepid has a focus on learning how to be with someone first, with the purpose of maintaining healthy relationships. Users can share and learn about healthy relationships and show their personality through Cuepid's Quizzes, as well as connect with others (and maybe find a date!) through common interests through social media and learning categories.

What we learned

We learned that this unique type of dating app + social media hybrid application focused on education does not exist in the current market. We also learned to incorporate React Native and Gemini API.

What's next for Cuepid

Fully implementing our chatbot. Expanding quizzes and our educational section. Adding communities for different topics, hobbies, and educational forums.
