Inspiration
Isolation and feeling out of place are familiar feelings for new college first-years, especially students who are first-generation college students or who come from minority communities. Students have trouble staying organized and getting connection on campus. If only we had a simple technology that could plug students in to campus events and keep them organized. Look no further than Cue, your friendly scheduling chatbot!
What it does
Cue is a Facebook Messenger chatbot that keeps tracks of events for students.
How we built it
Server-side is Python / Django with a PostgreSQL DB on the back. We integrate with the Facebook Messenger API, Google Places and Google Calendars.
Challenges we ran into
None of us have ever built a chatbot! Learning how to use the Facebook Messenger API was new and thinking about how to parse text proved more challenging than we expected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We love the design and personality of Cue! We're also proud that this is our first hackathon.
What we learned
Chatbots are completely new for us, but we also got a crash course in AI as well!
What's next for cue
We'll be adding better integrations with maps and calendars, then we'll be ready to party!
