Inspiration

Billions of people worldwide lack access to healthcare or face financial hardship when seeking treatment. Many underserved communities encounter structural barriers such as lack of insurance, geographic limitations, and financial exclusion. We wanted to build a solution that reduces these barriers and makes healthcare payments more accessible.

What it does

CrowdCare enables patients to pay healthcare providers directly or receive crowdfunding support using digital or traditional currencies, allowing fast, transparent, and cross-border healthcare payments.

How we built it

We built CrowdCare as a web platform using a role-based system for doctors, patients, and donors. Doctors can create invoices, patients can view and manage their bills, and donors can browse campaigns and contribute. We integrated XRPL-based payment logic to simulate fast and secure transactions, and structured the backend to handle invoices, campaigns, and user roles dynamically. The interface was designed with simplicity and clarity to ensure users can navigate the platform intuitively.

Challenges we ran into

We had to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies like XRPL while designing a system that supports multiple user roles and payment flows. Structuring relationships between invoices, campaigns, and payments required careful backend logic, and we prioritized core features to demonstrate functionality within time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a working prototype that demonstrates a complete payment flow: doctors create invoices, patients access them, and donors can contribute. The platform includes role-based dashboards, dynamic pages, and realistic payment simulations.

What we learned

We learned how to design multi-user platforms, structure marketplace-style systems, and apply emerging payment technologies to real-world accessibility challenges while prioritizing impactful features under time constraints.

What's next for CrowdCare

Next, we plan to integrate real payment processing, provider verification, and fraud detection, and pilot the platform with clinics or nonprofits. Long term, we aim to scale CrowdCare globally as infrastructure for accessible healthcare payments.
