Inspiration
In this time of uncertainty, we wanted people to be aware of which stores and restaurants were safe to go to. People with conditions that make them vulnerable to the coronavirus want to make sure that a store is following social distancing guidelines and is staying clean before they go.
What it does
Our website gathers information from your community to help you make the best choice for your safety. We do this by asking for reviews for stores, and allowing you to look at them. Reviews answer questions such as:
- Are people wearing masks?
- How clean is it?
- Are social distancing guidelines being followed?
How we built it
By using the Google Maps Javascript and Places APIs and a MySQL database, we were able to let people review stores near them.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge for us was definitely time. We switched over to this project from another project that was not viable, and that left us with less than 24 hours to create this. Because of the time restraint, we were unable to implement viewing other people's reviews
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of having a working google maps screen and the ability to get stores near a user's location and let people review them.
What we learned
We learned how to use the Google Maps API, the Spectre CSS framework, and git.
What's next for Crowd Catalog
The biggest thing is to implement viewing other people's reviews, which shouldn't be too difficult but we simply ran out of time. For other things we want to do in the future, see the README in our github repo.
