๐ŸŒพ CropSaarthi โ€” Your Smart Farming Companion

๐ŸŒŸ Inspiration

In India, a majority of farmers still depend on traditional methods and word-of-mouth knowledge. This often leads to crop losses due to undiagnosed diseases, inefficient irrigation, and lack of awareness about government schemes. We were inspired to build a solution that combines AI, weather data, solar insights, and government support โ€” all in one offline-friendly app โ€” to truly empower the grassroots of agriculture.

๐Ÿ“ฑ What it does

CropSaarthi is a mobile-first AI assistant designed for farmers. It provides:

  • ๐Ÿง  AI Crop Doctor: Detects plant diseases from images and suggests eco-friendly, natural remedies.
  • ๐Ÿ’ง Smart Irrigation Planner: Uses weather data to recommend ideal watering times, saving water and effort.
  • โ˜€๏ธ Solar Solutions Guide: Calculates savings from solar tools and shows related subsidies.
  • ๐Ÿงช Soil Testing Portal: Links to governmentโ€™s Soil Health Card API to check soil quality.
  • ๐Ÿ“ข Welfare Scheme Updates: Informs farmers about active government & CSR programs for training, tools, and subsidies.
  • ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Voice + Local Language Support: Accessible to non-literate farmers.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ How we built it

  • Hugging Face Inference API: For plant disease image classification.
  • OpenWeatherMap API: To fetch weather data for irrigation logic.
  • Google Gemini API: For crop care advice and chat-based help.
  • Indian Government APIs: (e.g., Soil Health Card portal) for real-time soil reports.

๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚๏ธ Challenges we ran into

  • Integrating image-based disease detection inside a low-code/no-code environment.
  • Fetching weather data within platforms that donโ€™t allow direct API calls (worked around using mock inputs).
  • Ensuring everything works offline or with low bandwidth.
  • Designing a clean, multilingual interface accessible to rural users.

๐Ÿ† Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully functional multi-module assistant under one interface.
  • Generated realistic AI storytelling with avatars to explain the app.
  • Simulated complex features like soil testing and CSR scheme updates in an intuitive way.
  • Created a platform thatโ€™s genuinely scalable and meaningful for real users.

๐Ÿ“š What we learned

  • How to combine multiple AI services and APIs into one seamless tool.
  • Real-world constraints of rural users: low tech literacy, offline needs, language barriers.
  • The power of narrative storytelling (daughter-to-father demo) to make tech more human.

๐Ÿš€ What's next for CropSaarthi

  • Host a real backend for disease image detection and weather sync.
  • Partner with agri-tech startups and NGOs to bring CropSaarthi into real fields.
  • Add WhatsApp chatbot integration for non-app users.
  • Create a physical helpline kiosk for offline village centers.

CropSaarthi is not just an app โ€” itโ€™s a vision to bridge the gap between farmers and technology. ๐ŸŒฟ
