Inspiration
We were inspired by the keynote speaker, who emphasized the importance of networking for professional success. We found that mainstream social networking apps, such as LinkedIn, focus on suggesting people who attend the same college, but it's challenging to search for people who are in the same major.
How we built it
After coming up with the concept, we selected which languages and frameworks to use and created a Figma prototype to design the user experience. We then created the background and icons. On the development side, we worked on creating two pages, one with a login form and one to display suggested connections and their contact info.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't have experience with any of the frameworks we used, so the learning process was time-consuming. A lot of time was also spent debugging the login page, so we lost time on finishing the results page. We also didn't have time to include the background and icons that were designed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our persistence, as well as our ability to learn and adapt quickly. Considering most of us are first-time hackers, finishing our project on time is an accomplishment in and of itself.
What we learned
We learned that simplicity is key when developing a concept for an app in a short timeframe. That way, more time can be devoted to perfecting its essential functions.
What's next for Crafting Conexions
Some ways in which we could expand this project is by adding extra factors that can be weighed in providing suggested connections, such as past work experience, field of interest, and demographics. We could also create a feedback feature to see how users feel about their results.
