Inspiration
COVID-19 has been talked about greatly within these past few months because it is a novel coronavirus. We were inspired by current events to build this game in order to teach people about the virus without adding to the widespread panic and paranoia that the media and society has done.
What it does
An interactive game (which can be played on the computer or on a phone) that gives players a chance to visualize what life might be like in China with the outbreak of COVID-19. Our website also contains a breakdown of symptoms, preventative measures, advice on what to do if sick, and external sources so that visitors can educate themselves on COVID-19 and remember that it does not mean automatic death.
How we built it
We used RenJS to build the game component of the project and HTML, CSS, and JS to build an informational website. We hosted everything on Github.
Challenges we ran into
Some of us were learning RenJS for the first time. It was also difficult to think of a way to make our project stand out and come up with a name for it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud we completed most of the goals we set for ourselves for this project!
What we learned
We learned more about the coronavirus in general and COVID-19 in comparison to the rest
What's next for COVID-19 Game
We plan to add custom sprites, more scenarios, and change the storyline according to the location that the player is based in. The location would influence how severe the outbreak is and any issues the player would encounter in their day to day lives. We also plan to update the game according to the development of COVID-19.
