Inspiration

The recruitment process for post-secondary schools in BC is a time-consuming and tedious process for scouts and student athletes. This project started when I discussed with my friends who are on the Douglas and SFU mens basketball teams about their application process. It involved a lot of moving parts such as sending in game footage to school coaches through emails and going to exposure tournaments and compete against other aspiring athletes.

What it does

CourtSight aims to be the bridge between university scouts and highschool student athletes.

  • It provides a centralized data hub for scouts to view, analyze, and contact student athletes on the platform.
  • Student athletes can create player profiles and upload
  • Data of their games are passed through .csv

How we built it

  • Stack was basic next.js, typescript, and tailwind.css.
  • Initial implementation of a cloud database (will work on after)

Challenges we ran into

  • Junior and Senior Boys basketball scores are tracked on scoresheets that only list fouls and points scored by a team, which means there was no qualified dataset that could be used to extract the metrics I wanted to display. Because of this, I opted for a .json player data and hopefully a future upgrade for database.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Able to host a next.js project on vercel for the first time! My first ever deployed project.
  • I've had this idea in my mind, as this is a startup venture I'd like to pursue. It was great to finally have an MVP!

What we learned

  • If you just lock in, you can make it

What's next for courtsight

  • Catch courtsight as the next big startup!
