Inspiration
In school, we learned that some college students take five, six, or even more years to complete a bachelor's degree. We also heard stories of college students taking more than 20 units a semester and then withdrawing from a few classes to protect their health.
What it does
We created Courseload, a website to help students graduate on time while taking a reasonable course load each term. Graduating on time saves money and reduces opportunity costs, and taking a reasonable course load can keep Ws off your transcripts and your health from deteriorating due to stress.
How we built it
We built Courseload using React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Tailwind, Figma, and Vercel. First, we brainstormed potential ideas for the prompt of student betterment. Then Amy created a wireframe and a prototype, while Kevin and Anlisa set up our GitHub repository and React app. After that, we coded, committed changes to GitHub, and deployed our app to Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
Styling on Figma was difficult to replicate with code in a short time span. We also had difficulty making our page responsive but were able to figure it out. Our website is now responsive and works well on all devices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
During this process, we learned how to use Figma, React, Tailwind, and Vercel, since these are tools that most of our group were not familiar with.
What we learned
We learned how to use new technologies quickly.
What's next for Courseload
In the future, we hope to make the export to PDF button on page 3 work so students can save their course plans to their computers. In the meantime, students can screenshot their pages to save their progress.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We hope you will support us in helping students organize their course load!
