Inspiration
As a first-year CSB student at Lehigh, I struggled to choose classes, find suitable professors, and judge workloads—and upper-year students face similar challenges, especially with information scattered across many websites. So, we created this project to let students share course experiences and recommendations, and to use AI to quickly provide essential information and relevant quotes when needed.
What it does
The app allows the user to look through courses and see how the course was rated. The user can also add courses for future semesters and provide feedback/reviews for classes.
How we built it
We primarily used Google AI studios, ChatGPT, and Loveable for the final product. Google AI studio was used for the prompting, ChatGPT for suggestions and troubleshooting, and Loveable for a stronger UI design.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into includes inputting custom images into the code and prompting for format. Scraping and organizing course data was harder than expected. Ensuring accurate AI recommendations and balancing schedules without conflicts required multiple iterations. Also, using multiple AI tools for one application was also a struggle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a functional, intelligent course planning tool in a short timeframe. Our AI-powered recommendations, clean interface, and automated schedule optimization exceeded what we initially thought we could deliver.
What we learned
We learned how to blend AI with traditional planning tools, manage complex datasets, and design features centered around real student needs. We also improved our teamwork, rapid prototyping, and system integration skills.
What's next for Course Evaluator App
We plan to enhance the app by gathering more information from the chatbot to generate even more accurate and personalized responses. We’ll also expand course entries by adding more sections, recitations, and labs to increase scheduling flexibility. A refreshed UI with improved color themes will make the experience more visually appealing. Beyond Lehigh, we aim to evolve the platform into a universal course-planning tool that can serve other colleges—and even high schools. Finally, we want to incorporate AI-powered design tools like Figma’s AI features to offer deeper customization and a more human-centered user experience.
