Inspiration
We love outer space, and wanted to share our passion by displaying astronomy-related images. To make the experience more personal, we had the idea to let users input their birthday and find what corresponding image relates with that date and themselves.
What it does
The app accepts any valid date, and displays a cool image of astronomical phenomena by NASA, along with its title and explanation of the phenomena.
How we built it
We built most of the app using Taipy, and retrieved the space images using NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day API.
Challenges we ran into
We experienced quite a hard learning curve when creating pages and the backend using Taipy. We also attempted to implement Matlab but couldn't integrate it with Python.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to quickly make a simple yet neat looking page using Taipy.
What we learned
We learned about the concept of states within Taipy's page structures.
What's next for Cosmic Cumpleanos
Our additional goals include analyzing and graphing other astronomical phenomena like Coronal Mass Ejections, and using dates as a seed to pick different stars in order to form new constellations.
