We wanted to bridge the gap between ancient astronomical wisdom and modern web technology, creating an experience that's both educational and visually stunning.

With millions of people turning to astrology for self-reflection and guidance (with free birth charts being one of the top searches online), we saw an opportunity to democratize access to personalized birth chart readings through beautiful, intuitive design and instant chart generation.

What it does

Cosmic Chart is a modern astrology birth chart generator that transforms complex astronomical calculations into beautiful, personalized insights. Users simply input their birth date, time, and location to receive:

Challenges we ran into

Astronomical Calculations: Implementing accurate planetary position algorithms without relying on heavy astronomy libraries. We solved this by creating simplified but representative calculations based on orbital periods.
SVG Chart Rendering: Building an interactive, responsive chart wheel from scratch using SVG paths, circles, and mathematical positioning. Converting degrees to radians and positioning elements precisely on a circular layout required careful trigonometric calculations.
Performance Optimization: Ensuring smooth animations while rendering complex charts with multiple planetary aspects. We optimized by limiting aspect line rendering and using CSS transforms for better performance.
Responsive Design: Making the circular chart wheel look perfect on all screen sizes while maintaining readability of planetary symbols and house divisions.
User Experience Flow: Balancing the complexity of astrological information with an intuitive interface that doesn't overwhelm newcomers to astrology.
