Inspiration
Message received on paper:
In these uncertain times as the world around us becomes less familiar, let us use this time to get to know each other better and maybe even help each other out from time to time. It is time to get local!
A few of us on Street are joining a whatsapp group called – we would love you to join our group. To do so:
- If you don’t yet have it, download ‘Whatsapp’ from the app store and activate it.
- Join the group using this address in your mobile browser:> or by pointing your camera to the QR code blow.
- Say ‘hi’ and introduce yourself.
- Looking forward to getting to know you better!
What it does
Allow people who are not each other's contacts to join together on a whatsapp group around a certain topic, location or mission.
A mobile-responsive website which does the follows:
- indexes links to whatsapp groups
- filter by topics, locations or search term
- for each group have a profile page showing purpose / activity level / known contacts in group (upon contact sync) / group admins
- add a bot to each group chat detect spam and abuse, welcome new members, make allowed anouncements
How I built it
Challenges I ran into
- Finding the right people
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I built a local group that has formed where we help each other with scarce products, do shopping for old ladies and describe guidelines for using the play equipment in the park.
Actual feedback: "Huge gratitude for your community care, concern and giving" "I can't thank you enough for what you are doing."
I now want to scale that x10,000.
What I learned
Most people want to do good in bad times
What's next for CoronaStreet
Ability to use the whatsapp group to crowdsource (with user consent) location and health related data and disseminate public announcements that can be customized by location
