Inspiration

Not many countries use this type of method to alert people about COVID-19. We can use technology to inform more people and since Google Maps is a very commonly used app, using google maps API might have been a good idea. If people become more aware, the spread will be decreased.

What it does

Reads CSV files, and marks markers on google map with transparent circles around it. It also shows alerts depending on user location. The circles are color-coded with red, yellow, and blue; red is the most critical while blue is the least.

How I built it

We used the Android Studio and Google Maps API. We would all be in a meeting and keep discussing what to do further.

Challenges I ran into

For some reason, we couldn't read any CSV files which was very annoying. We googled for hours and hours to fix this issue and finally managed to do it. I think the reason was that since it runs on an android phone, the path to this file is different from that on my computer.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We have spent hours and hours trying to read a CSV file. After googling for hours and hours, We finally fixed my issue which was very refreshing. Furthermore, the fact that we made this with something that we have no experience with was fun to do.

What I learned

We learned quite a lot. We have never used the android studio google maps API. This was our first project about google maps. This was also our first hackathon which was very interesting. We also learned that not all group members have to be a developer to make something cool.

What's next for Coronalert

Since it reads from CSV files, it might be better if we could use a website or some other programs that helps us add data to CSV files. Right now, we would have to add data manually.
