Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from various sources. The first spark for this game actually came from a tabletop game called "Alchymiste". This game has the mechanics of mixing potions to find out the precise composition of the substance. We found this concept very interesting and wanted to bring some of it into the realm of video games.

What it does

The village, where our protagonist is living, is infected by some kind of virus. This virus has a very nasty trait, which allows him to mutate very quickly. To make the situation worse, the virus has several symptoms and each villager can have different ones. Our protagonist is tasked to get rid of viruses from the entire village by providing heal potions to its inhabitants. But here is the catch, he doesn't know anything about mixing potions. Will he succeed to wipe out the virus from the village or will he bear his failure for his entire life?

High Concept

Find a potion, which will cure the villagers of the virus, by mixing various herbs.

Genre

logic and action single-player game.

Market Research

We found these similar games: Alchemist Simulator and Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator.

Alchemist Simulator
This game can be found on Steam. The game was released on 23 October 2020 by two publishers Polyslash and HeartBeat Games. On Steam, 77% of players rated the game positively. Mostly they liked the idea and story. However, some players mentioned they disliked the repetitive process of mixing potions, buying as the only option to gather resources and low selling prices.

Potion Craft: Alchemist Simulator
This game is still in development but it already has lots of fans, only the Discord server has almost 1200 people. At the moment the demo contains only one level. Players are highlighting stunning visuals, creating potion mechanics and price negotiation. They also mention the absence of quests as drawbacks.

Unique Selling Points

  • Virus is spreading between villagers.
  • Experimenting with potions. At the start of the game, the player doesn't know the effects of the herbs and must find them out by experimenting on villagers.
  • Reputation. When a player gives a potion with negative effects to the villager, he will lose his reputation. If the player hits zero reputation, he will lose the game.

Persona

David
He likes playing logic games in which the player needs to find the winning combination. He also loves when the game offers high replayability. He is an occasional player, but when the game offers great playing mechanics, he can play for hours.

How we built it

We built it using Unity and with a lot of (sometimes) hard work.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with creating our game mechanics because everyone from the team had brilliant ideas and finding compromise was difficult. We also struggled with creating UI for different aspect ratios.
